"In early times, medicine was an art, which took its place at the side of poetry and painting; today they try to make a science of it, placing it beside mathematics, astronomy, and physics."

"Every science touches art... every art has its scientific side; the worst man of science is he who is never an artist, and the worst artist is he who is never a man of science."

Armand Trousseau, Lectures on Clinical Medicine (1869)

This is a selection of various medical books for Production Processes module of my MA in Publishing at Anglia Ruskin University.  It shows different approaches to cover design. Some of these covers are beautiful, some ugly, some are plain and others are designed to shock. Publications that are aimed at medical professionals often have a conservative cover design, while books for the general public are designed to sell, so the covers are more provocative and even gruesome.
